Rough Luck Racing Update

The ‘maiden voyage’ in the camper today…

We went to Higham Ferrers, Northants and great to to see Lee who had rescued a fab looking TF about 4 years ago and has done a load of stuff to get ‘Selina’ looking lovely again. So he could feel confident going on the long runs he asked us to do a preemptive head gasket and also carry out the cambelt service. Really good morning, everything mostly behaved, lots of great conversation and cuppas.

Got the stickers ordered Lee, will het them in the post to you. Hope the leg doesn’t give you too much grief!

We then carried on further south to a campsite near Winchester.

A new venture for us, no last minute hotel bookings, thinking could do the same with a campsite, no chance! Found one, but no electric hookup so bought a generator which is grumbling away outside. Absolutely chucking it down and the side door is leaking. Got the telly though! posted on Rough Luck Racing https://ift.tt/363HZbI

STEPSPEED Drive Plate Replacement …

We brought this fab looking steppy back with us from Norfolk for fitting of a new drive plate, as John had got a bit tired of the rattles!

Got it done over the last couple of days. One of the bolts on the plate rounded off and proved to be a bit of an awkward begger to undo, so we bought some more bolt removers, as ours were a bit old and worn and hey presto!

Once the plate was removed 4 out of the 8 springs had disintegrated. This plate as opposed to the Ford one, that we fitted last time, was a Brown & Gammons one, and a lot trickier to fit, due to not having very much tapering on the splines.

Car all ready to return to John. posted on Rough Luck Racing https://ift.tt/363HZbI

Rough Luck Racing Update

An early start at the workshop this morning.

We gave Elton’s Stepspeed it’s final tweaks. Over the past few months Elton has given us and our neighbours a few things to do, the car has had:

• 135 cams fitted
• stainless exhaust back box and flexi fitted
• reprogrammed ECU
• 4 pot calipers, new discs all round, new front pads
• Piper Cross induction kit
• window mechanism repaired
• lambda sensor

• New wheels powder coated complete with new tyres, courtesy of Jason at ‘MG & Alpha Spares’

• Bodywork all done and full respray in U-pol raptor by ‘Black Sheep Customs’. Elton is looking forward to showing it off next year when the shows get back up and running again.

Car looks amazing and very pleased to hear from Elton that he had a great run back home. Great to finally meet you!

Got loads done with the steppy we have in for drive plate replacement. Update on that later…

Same model, same colour, a couple of years apart and a few miles apart on two MGF mpi’s…

Another short trip along the road this morning, to Mundesley, and great to see Alan again for a few things on his R reg; engine bay coolant pipes replaced with stainless, underfloor coolant pipes replaced with stainless, radiator swapped for a twin fan one (little bit of nifty wiring done), hydragas fill up, coolant alarm fit, slave cylinder replaced, Lambda sensor replaced, both rear calipers cleaned up and a few other niggles sorted following the MOT.

We then headed back to our lovely
Lodge. As we had an earlier finish than expected, we got the work done on David and Liz’s V reg.

Having been a recent acquisition they wanted us to give the car a check over and a minor service. What a fab car! Only a couple of small issues to be sorted to give it a new lease of life and bring it back to to spec.

Only a few miles down the road to Swanton Abbott and great to meet Hugh. He had a bought a MGF 143 VVC to do up, so asked us if we could come and do a few things to get her sound, and then for him to get the bodywork sorted etc. We were able to fit him in as Haydn’s gasket had gone whilst he was up in the north east, so the slot became available, shame not to meet Haydn, glad he got sorted, but Hugh was extremely grateful.

There was no history with the car at all, so we replaced the head gasket and carried out a cambelt replacement, water pump and tensioner, alternator belt replaced, plus hydragas top up. Fab morning meeting his gang of beautiful Greyhounds!

From there we went to Shropham, Attleborough, great to see Stuart again.

His TF160 had been having some coolant loss, we found it to be the internal heater control valve, so this was replaced.

His LE500 was having a couple of minor noise issues. We had advised Stuart prior to our visit about the idler pulley, which he replaced. Minor hydraulic lifter noise, so we added a can of Wynn’s hydraulic lifter cleaner, this cured that one. Minor noise still appears to be coming from the air con compressor. Hopefully due to the fact it hasn’t been used for some time the compressor noise should subside.

Date to be booked in in January for underseal trestment, plus other snags to be sorted.

Fab weather all day, not looking the best for tomorrow! – https://ift.tt/363HZbI

Rough Luck Racing Update

Set off from our base this morning and went down to Tollesbury, great to meet Perry who was having a couple of issues with his beautiful looking TF135 in Le Mans Green.

Clutch slave cylinder replaced as the seals had blown. The brace that was fitted was reseated as was off at an angle causing the clutch arm to rub against it. New clevis pins fitted to the arm and the pedal. Clutch release arm freed off. Just had a message from Perry saying it now feels really good. Few other bits done. Beautiful sunny morning. Thanks for the cuppas Perry!

From there we went to Colchester, lovely to see Stewart again, to carry out minor service on his TF135. Torrential rain stopped play for a while! New battery needed as his had died. Thanks for the cuppas Stewart, good luck with the house move!

We then headed north to meet Bob, in Merton, near Thetford, who had initially booked us in to do the head gasket and cambelt service on their fab Rover 218 VVC, but COVID put paid to that, with it being their only car had it done at a local MG garage. Bob wanted us to carry out a pre MOT check. The car is 22 years old and in really good condition. Really lovely to meet you both finally!

Now back at the lodge to catch-up on emails etc and make some tea. Really good day, with lovely people. – https://ift.tt/363HZbI
