The MG Highlander
What an enjoyable few days on the MG Highlander this weekend.
With the base being in Nethy Bridge we headed up on Friday to Glengarnock to leave the van at Alan & Andy’s, where it was an absolute privilege being loaned one of Alan’s amazing fleet, his TF 135 in Twilight (a 1 of 1) absolutely stunning car, no pressure there!
We set off up to Pitlochry with Alan in his TF 160 in Aurora, Andy in the MGF mpi in Copperleaf and us in the 135 to pick up David. We then had a brilliant run over, in convoy, to the hotel, arriving in the nick of time for dinner!
Saturday and Sunday saw runs taking in Braemer, Balmoral, Black Isle Brewery, Dornoch etc. Such stunning scenery and locations, made even better with plenty of very welcome sun. A fantastic turn out of cars, with people coming over from all parts of the UK and Ireland.
The run was held in memorial to Jim Garstang, and had been planned 2 years ago, but obviously couldn’t take place. Jim had been part of this run for many many years. With remembrance also to lovely Lucie, who enjoyed this trip many times and always said we should go. So finally we did.
This is one of the oldest runs, being held originally, by MGF Scotland since 1998. Alan has been running it since 2009. It was good to meet up with friends, and meet new ones, with this shared interest in these fab little cars and many tales to be shared about where they have taken us. We left behind our car for the weekend in Glengarnock this afternoon and got back into the van and are now heading home. (No Jon, Alan won’t let you have it!)
Huge ‘thank you’ to Alan for everything! Back to reality now ready for a busy day tomorrow.
