Back to it and our first job of the week was at the workshop on Tuesday morning, where it was great to meet Kjeld and his wife, who live in Denmark and who were on another trip of the UK, this time taking in the NC500.
Cambelt service carried out for them on their MGF 120 mpi (paint code CMU). Really lovely to have a chat with them before they headed on their way to their next stop-over in Penrith.
Wednesday morning found us over in Husthwaite, near York, for a full cambelt service on Mark’s MGF 120 mpi (paint code HAM). Great to meet Mark properly, who had popped over to say hello while we were at Pateley Bridge at the weekend.
From there we headed over to Chapel Allerton for hydragas pump up on Tony’s ‘01 MGF (paint code CDX), it was right down on its stops, so much so the MOT station had recorded a modified suspension system! At least he can now get back for the repeat test.
Thursday morning and back at the workshop. Mik brought over his wife’s MGF 1.8 mpi, known as ‘Tess’ for the MOT. The minor service was deferred until next year as they had only done 400 miles since the service last year. Date booked in for this and the MOT for 2025.
The second job of the day was cancelled last minute, too late to book anything else in, which is a shame. I did try, but it was too short notice for folk. Jon cracked on with some welding on one of our doer-uppers. I got caught up on a ton of admin at least.
That brings us to today, Friday, and we had the day in Lincolnshire. Our first call was on James’s ‘04 TF 1.8 (paint code MBB) for minor service and a check over. Great to meet him and have a chat before heading off to our next call a few miles along the road to John Ponting’s house.
John’s ‘09 post LE 135 was due for its minor service, plus he was experiencing some issues with his clutch, so this was investigated and nothing untoward found. Couple of other bits sorted for him. Good to see John and Lynn, have a chat and a cuppa with him before heading on our way. Thanks to John for the huge box of Jaffa cakes!
As we were just around the corner from Rimmer Bros we popped in for some parts and to return a few bits. Always nice to see the chaps in there.
Our last call of the day and of the week was in Somercotes, near Louth, for work on Mark’s MGF Stepspeed (paint code JBH).
Having been stood in the garden for quite some time Mark wanted to get the car back on the road.
Minor service carried out, underfloor coolant-pipes replaced with stainless steel ones, hydragas pump up, oil gauge replaced, rear lightbulb-holders replaced, plus bulbs, and a few other bits fettled. Date booked in to return to replace the rear window and to carry out the cambelt service, that we found out later was overdue, not by much, but all the same needs doing.
We didn’t meet Mark as he was working. It’s good to see that he’s investing in keeping this fab car on the road.
