Rough Luck Racing Update
We left our fab campsite this morning and headed over to Weston-super-Mare.
Simon had got in touch asking if we were by any chance anywhere near him in the near future to check over his MGF that had been stood for a while. Fortunately, for him we had a gap!
Cambelt service was due etc, but he didn’t want to get anything done if it wasn’t financially viable. Well, he has an absolutely great example of a VVC 143; bodywork great, underfloor really good etc. So full cambelt service carried out. Full health check and pre MOT check done. Bulbs replaced in various places. Alternator belt replaced. Other bits done, but unfortunately not being in the usual van we have limited stock, and needed a coupler for the horn. Great to meet Simon.
From there we went over to Bradford-on-Tone near Taunton to meet Mark, whose fairly recent acquisition, a TF135 had been overheating, local garage had pressure tested etc and said the head gasket was fine. Mark had also contacted us on the off chance to see if we were in the area.
Mark wanted a minor service carrying out and investigation of the overheating. So, we carried out all our tests, pressure of system and cap (which was faulty), swapped out the PRT, ran the car up to temperature and all behaving. We advised Mark that it may still be the head gasket at fault as was such a minor weep and discussed coming back at a later date.
Unfortunately, on his test drive this evening the car overheated again. Not a problem, we’re in the area so will return on Thursday to replace the head gasket, plus we found that the cambelt was replaced 9 years ago so well overdue, will be good to get the car sorted properly and give Mark peace of mind as he intends to use it as his regular car.
Good day, meeting lovely people again.
Now on another touring campsite in Newton Abbott. Posted today to the

What an enjoyable day we had in Hanham, near Bristol today…
Great to meet Mark for some things on his very tidy MGF 1.8 mpi.
Pump up of the suspension, throttle body swap for a 52 mm, headlight swap, fit of new induction kit, oil change, front discs upgraded from 240 mm to 304 mm and 4 pot calipers, plus replacement of the steering wheel for one he won on the Topless Round the Peak District auction.
Mark had also won our auction item for the cambelt service on a k-series, for his rover cabriolet, but unfortunately Mark’s was a Honda engine.
After a call the local euro car parts we discovered that none of the items required were available throughout the whole company! So, once we manage to get them date to be arranged to return.
Lots of great chats, plus fab weather for a change. Cheers for all cuppas Mark. Was lovely to meet all the gang! Posted today to the

We unhitched the camper and left our campsite in Brighton and headed over to Hastings this morning…
A few things carried out on a very tidy TF135, minor service, new rear caliper etc. Date to be arranged to return next year for break upgrade and a couple of other things. Lovely to meet you Ian, see you next year!
We then headed north, and went over to Tonbridge to see Dan, as he had bought a new wide-band Lambda that he wanted fitting to his, heavily modified and supercharged, MGF. We replaced this and Jon wired it in to the ECU. Car up and running and sounding really good.
On our way home now through some torrential rain and floods. What an interesting and enjoyable week on the south coast.
Then it’s restock ‘The Beast’ and then next stop the south west. posted on Rough Luck Racing https://ift.tt/363HZbI

A run along Brighton seafront this morning to our call in Hove.
Nigel had asked us to replace the head gasket on his TF160 and carry out cambelt service as his local garages didn’t want to do it.
Everything went really well, Nigel was concerned that the car had a sticking valve, but when fired up the car was the smoothest we’ve ever heard.
We then headed over to Eastbourne and fab to see Chris again, cambelt service carried out on his lovely ‘Avril’, a very tidy TF135.
Shame the weather turned rubbish again, as we missed out on another pootle about on the C5 and his electric scooters! Let’s hope for better weather in March.
Thank you, to Martin, for the tea and biscuits, very welcome. posted on Rough Luck Racing https://ift.tt/363HZbI

Unhooked ‘The Beast’, left the campsite and went on to Gosport.
This beautiful looking TF135 belonged to a previous employee at Longbridge, while showing two owners, it had in fact only been owned by one, as it was his company car whilst at MG, then when he left he bought it.
Stephen is now the proud owner and it is a keeper, so he asked us to come and carry out full cambelt service and give the car a health check and advise on anything else. Underfloor pipes weren’t in great condition so we replaced these with stainless.
Great morning, lovely to meet you Stephen, and thank you for all the cuppas! Look forward to seeing you next year.
We then headed east and are now pitched at a fantastic site in Brighton. posted on Rough Luck Racing https://ift.tt/363HZbI
