Wakefield

Wakefield was the destination for Jon on Saturday morning to meet Glenn for investigation of oil temperature sensor issue, find and fix coolant leak and free off binding brakes NSF on his 80th Anniversary TF 135, all sorted and ready for a trip to Cornwall.

A visit to eurocarparts etc for me to restock on a few things. Plus chance to catch-up on all messages.

Sutton Coldfield Servicing

What a fantastic day spent in Sutton Coldfield with Paul for work on his MGF Trophy in solar red and Sharon’s MGF Trophy in Anthracite, both cars had cylinder head problems, Paul’s had worn stem seals and Sharon’s had noisy VVC mechs.

He had purchased two brand new cylinder heads and so we swapped these out, including brand new water pumps, tensioners, cambelts and alternator belts. Timing covers, bolts etc all replaced where damaged. Both stunning cars & obviously well loved.

Despite the awful weather, the gazebo did its bit to keep us relatively dry, plus a steady stream of cuppas to keep us warm, thanks Dom 😊, including a freshly baked whole cake for Jon!
Thank you Sharon (smells amazing in the van)!

Look forward to seeing you all at an event or something soon!

Head Gasket and Service on an MGTF

We found ourselves on Clee Hill this morning near Ludlow. Really lovely to meet Brian for head gasket and cambelt service on his very tidy MGTF 115.

Great location with amazing views when the rain gave up for a while, fortunately we had a garage to work in. All went well apart from the crank pulley bolt didn’t want to come undone, got there with a bit of persuasion.

Poor old trusty steed the van struggled a bit with the hills, think it might well be time for a new engine.

MGF Mobile Service in Boston

Boston, Lincs was our destination this morning and really lovely to meet James for investigation of coolant loss on his lovely looking MGF mpi.

After pressure testing the system it was found to be coming from the water pump. James asked us to carry out a full cambelt service since we were in there. Hydragas pump up carried out also, as car was looking a tad low, plus rear pads and discs replaced.

What a great morning. Look forward to seeing you again James. Thanks to your lovely step dad for a cracking brew!

From there we called in to Rimmers for some more stock ahead of our 5 day tour starting tomorrow in Ludlow.

Lift now fitted at the Unit

This morning spent at the unit having the 2 post lift installed, so pleased to see it all coming together. Great couple of blokes ready and waiting for us who got cracking and did a fab job!

The Two Post Lift Goes In

Working in Wolston

Busy day today, we went to see lovely Bill again in Wolston for full cambelt service on his tidy looking ‘01 MGF VVC in Tahiti blue. Beautiful sunny morning.

From there we went to see Jonathan again for source of leak in the passenger footwell, found it to be coming from the blanking plate that the steering rack would come through on the left-hand drive models. Sealed up and hopefully no more soggy carpet!

Whilst on our travels Mark, from Conisbrough, called to see when we could pop over and diagnose a crunch on his gearbox when going in to 5th. So, we called in to see him and unfortunately it is not a cable issue or clutch issue, it is a faulty fifth gear. Mark would like it to booked into the unit and have clutch and waxoyl the underfloor at the same time as having a new gearbox fitted. We need to source a new 1.6 gearbox and get him sorted.

Time to catch-up now on emails etc.

Head gasket in Comberton

Great to be back on the road again today.

We went to meet Steve in Comberton for head gasket and cambelt service, and other service bits plus stainless steel underfloor pipes on his beautiful TF 135 in Trophy Blue. Plus while we were there we gave her a bit of a health check prior to MOT. Really great to meet you Steve and thank you for the cracking cuppa! I forgot to take any pics of the car unfortunately! We look forward to coming back for more bits.

A cracking cuppa!

From there we went on to Wisbech to see Kevin again for annual service and hydragas pump up on his beautiful looking MGF 120 in Copperleaf.

Really good day apart from the notorious hold ups on the A14 this morning.

Ongoing Projects

Busy week so far with our first projects in the unit.

The major job with Dan’s car is coming along with the removal of standard VVC engine, rebuilding the cylinder head from the new engine, installing new forged piston bottom end, making all adaptations and installing super charger kit, oil cooler system, super charger separate oil feed system, charged cooler for the air flow. Replacing all rear sub-frame mounts, rear shockers, rear brakes etc ….more to do.

Whilst Jon did that I cracked on with the TF 135 that we had bought with a trashed engine, this was fitted with a new refurbished head, new thermostat, water pump, tensioner, cambelt, alternator belt, underfloor stainless pipes, wire brushed and under sealed, flexi hose removed & replaced. Soggy carpet removed, still lots to do to this also to get her back to rights.

A tiring, but very interesting and satisfying week so far, back to it in the morning…
